Portland lost 8 of their last 9 games to finish the season 4-12. Before the season started Portland envisioned a scenario where the Quarterback position might be a team strength moving forward. Ryan Fitzpatrick looked to be an emerging talent and the team drafted Colt McCoy who was coming off of a solid first season as an NFL signal caller. Fitzpatrick got the first shot but he struggled and gave way to McCoy. Although McCoy has outperformed Fitzpatrick he hasn't necessarily locked up that position heading into next year. Halfback Danny Woodhead finished his one year run as the starting HB. but backup C.J. Spiller probably will inherit that job next season. Larry Fitzgerald is one Portland player that played well all season. Fitzgerald lead the league in Receptions with 108 and was second in receiving yardage. The defense also had some bright spots, Chris Kelsay and Trevor Scott tied for the team lead seven sacks. Special teams play was solid as Leon Washington returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and punter Mat McBriar led the Frozen Tundra in punting average. Portland offensive leaders:

Team synopsis: San Antonio suffered through a sub .500 season in 2010. Coach Dale Van Deven decided to acquire some veteran leadership to help stabilize the team through their youthful transition. A giant building block was already in place on the Defensive side, DeMarcus Ware. DeMarcus is a 5 time Pro-Bowl linebacker and 3 times 1st Team All-Pro. In both 2008 and 2010 Ware led the NFL in sacks. The question mark is on the other side of the ball. The Gunslingers, contrary to their team name don't have a true Gunslinger under Center. It appears as though it may be Curtis Painter moving forward. The running back situation is in good hands with alternating hot hands LaGarrette Blount, Willis McGahee and DeAngelo Williams all capable of carrying the rock.
San Antonio finished the season 8-8 with a late season loss to Southern California causing them to just miss the playoffs. You don't have to analyze this team too deeply to find their weakest link, just start at the most crucial position. San Antonio quarterbacks combined for 7 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. While quarterbacking was weak the team strength was their running game. The 'Slingers LaGarrette Blount had over 1400 yards with a nice 5.6 yards per carry average. Aided by DeAngelo Williams, Willis McGahee, Jerome Harrison and Percy Harvin the Gunslingers out rushed their opposition by nearly 1200 yards. All-Pro linebacker DeMarcus Ware finished second in the league with 14 sacks to highlight the defensive effort. After Ware the defense played well but with some aging veterans this could be an area where San Antonio looks for an injection of youth. One quirk all season long was the fixation on 21 points. The team won just one game when they allowed more than 21 points and they failed to reach 21 points in any of the teams losses. San Antonio has some nice pieces in place so the off season will be important in determining the teams improvement in 2012. Gunslingers offensive leaders:
